The Rise application is currently closed. It will reopen at the end of 2021. Applicants follow the steps below.

Download the App

Start your application by downloading the Hello World - Rise app and following these steps. You’ll find it in the Google Play or iOS App Store by searching for “Hello World – Rise.”

Our app is designed to work all over the planet, so as many people as possible can apply. However, if you are unable to access a mobile device that can download the app, you can apply using WhatsApp.

We’re also working with select partners in low-connectivity areas to distribute paper applications.

Set Up a Profile and Introduce Yourself

DEADLINE EXTENDED: February 10, 2021

The first part of the application is all about getting to know you as an individual—your background, your passions, and your talents.

You will be asked a series of questions that you can respond to with short videos. Upload a selfie or a video from your library—get creative!

Don’t worry about being polished on your first try, as you can submit your response more than once. Others will see this video, so think about what you want them to know about you. You will also be asked to provide feedback on the videos your peers submit.

Along the way, you’ll watch videos from experts around the world teaching lessons on leadership, personal growth, and more.

Complete the Rise Challenge

Deadline: April 1, 2021

For the Rise Challenge, you will complete an individual project to demonstrate your interests, abilities, and drive.

You could create a piece of music, art, performance, or film; develop a new product, software service, or business; build a social or political movement; create a body of research; or anything else. We want to see what you care about—whatever form it takes!

You should plan to spend about 20 to 30 hours working on your individual project over a two-month period. You will create a project plan, record regular updates on your work, and share your project through the app.

Your project should be ambitious, but this does not mean it must be perfect. We encourage you to start with a prototype, such as a sketch or model, and improve upon it over time.

Participate in an Interview

May - July 2021

Up to 500 finalists will advance to the last stage of the application process.

You will have an opportunity to demonstrate your motivations, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills in an innovative interview format.
