Seven months after James immigrated to the US from Vietnam, he lost his grandma to cancer. He was emotionally devastated but decided to courageously channel his grief into researching the disease. After publishing seven cancer research papers in national and international scientific journals, he went on to prototype an early-cancer-detecting toothbrush for his Rise project, discovered a potential drug for late-stage treatments, and founded a data-storing accuracy-enhancing program for breast-cancer-detecting robots.
